Keywords are important for Internet marketers and web content writers as the most searched keywords generate more income. The Google Keyword Tool then becomes an important device to generate these high paying keywords. Article writers also use the Google Keyword Tool to have an idea of keywords to use on their next writing assignments.
You will not need to install expensive search engine optimization software to generate searchable keywords because the Google Keyword Tool is free! Here are some things you should know in using the Google Keyword Tool.
- Go to Google Keyword Tool site. Visit adwords.google.com. You do not need to login to a Google account to do this.
- Select your country. If you are targeting searches from the United States, you will not need to change the default language set. However, if you want to target specific countries, you can do so by selecting more than one country in the list (Ctrl + click or Command +click). If you were selling your content globally, it would be better to select All Countries.
- Generate your keywords. You have two options in generating your keywords. First, you can enter a keyword that comes to mind by choosing the “Descriptive words of phrases” option. Some Internet writers, on the other hand, import keywords from an AdGroup list. For example, if you are writing about diabetes and its symptoms you can type in “symptoms of diabetes” and “diabetes and its symptoms.” The other option is to select “Website content” and copy and paste the URL of the article you want to generate keywords from. Then, click “Get keyword ideas.”
- Limit your keyword search results. Go to the Match Type column in the search results table and choose to limit your options to broad, exact, phrase or negative. It is best to choose Exact.
- Show or hide columns according to your preference. You can show or hide columns depending on what you need to see. See the options on the “Choose columns to display” section. Hiding some of the columns gives you a more organized search and will let you export only the keywords you need.
- Check out the keywords. Look at the keywords that Google has grouped in the upper part of the table. These are the keywords that Google has grouped for you. You can click a link to show the keywords for that specific group.
- Sort the data according to your preference. Work on the table just as you would on a Microsoft Excel worksheet. This will make your keyword search easy.
- Download the generated keywords. This option is available and you can see this at the bottom of the search results table.Download as a .csv file for viewing through Microsoft Excel.
Bloggers also get to use the Google Keyword Tool to their advantage. Like web content writers, they can also have ideas on which keywords to use. Bloggers can also improve their old posts using the keywords generated by the Google Keyword Tool. (Source: howtodothings.com)

I do not vouch for software very often but this recent service is fantastic. It is a keyword tool that has a database of millions of keywords showing the adwords traffic count per month together with the google competition count and other figures.
At a click of a button you will discover keyword phrases with traffic but no competition and I’ve used it already to get pages and web-sites to the top of the various search engines, even with no backlinks.
