While you may not have all the cutecostumes, there are a few things you can do to take a few amazing photographs of your own.

  1. Step 1

Buy a digital camera such as a Nikon 500, that will take photographs in quick succession. Children do the cutest things but it happens so fast that you do not have time for lag time between clicking and shooting or between shots.

  2. Step 2

Get down on the same level as the child. We’ve all seen pictures of children staring up at the camera. Kneel down and shoot them in at a natural angle. The children will feel more at ease when the camera is not towering over them. The results are worth the painful position.

  3. Step 3

Use natural lighting whenever you can. When you can avoid flash, the little ones will not have a red light in their ariboo-main_Fulleyes or show just the whites of their eyes. They are also less likely to looked “washed out.”

  4. Step 4

Catch them being children. Posing often looks contrite but in a normal situation, many amazing photographs present themselves.

  5. Step 5

Have a positive attitude. When the photographer is stressed, demanding or unhappy, the children will sense that and may end up in tears. Don’t be overly aggressive with a child you do not know as they will recoil and you may never get the picture you want.

  6. Step 6

Use Halloween costumes to dress up your child and try to take a few Anne Geddes shots of your own. They can be purchased at a reduced price after the holiday and can be used to make adorable pictures for gifts for Christmas gifts.
