How to Take a Screen Shot of Your Computer Desktop

A screen shot of your computer desktop is a great tool for illustration purposes. If you have to make a point, reproduce an error for review, or for an ehow to article. This is an easy process using built in  winprint_screendows editing tools.

  1. Step 1

    Get the item you want portrayed on your screen, and make sure it is not covered by any other window.

  2. Step 2

    Press these two keys simultaneously “shift+print screen” key. This will capture your image and places it in the clip board of your computer.

  3. Step 3

    Open windows paint program, usually under Start/ Programs/ Accessories/ Paint

  4. Step 4

    Click on edit in Paint and select paste.

  5. Step 5

    Paste data into paint. You will notice there is more information in here than you need so we must edit this data and only show what is pertinent.

  6. Step 6

    Go to the tool bar icons and select the square dotted outlined box. This will give you the select box, to select text that you want to edit.

  7. Step 7

    Select the text and go to the edit bar once again and select “Cut”.

  8. Step 8

    printscreenGo to the “File” command and select “New”, this will ask you if you want to save. You can select No at this point.

  9. Step 9

    Go to edit select paste and your new smaller screen shot will be pasted in.

  10. Step 10

    Save your work in the format you want .bmp .jpg, etc..
