How to Get Up Early (part 1)

alarm-clock-roosterThere are morning people, and then there are anti-morning people. For the most part, waking up early and being a morning person means building healthy habits that allow us to get the rest we need before the alarm goes off. Even if you don’t plan to change your lifestyle, employing some of these tips can help you get up early just for tomorrow before returning to the sleepy dawn routine.

  1. Step 1

Keep your bed reserved for sleeping. Try to do less hobbies in bed, such as reading, drawing, or browsing your laptop. If you associate your bed with things that aren’t sleep, it’s going to be harder to sleep when it comes time to crawl into it.

  2. Step 2

Get your day ready the night before you go to bed. Set out a change of clothes, get your bags ready for school, work, or whatever may be the plan for the next day, and decide what you will have for breakfast. Keep your bathroom clean so you know where your morning routine items are (tooth brush, face wash, etc). If, as soon as you wake up, everything is laid out for you to use, it will be much easier to find the motivation to get started: the wake up call is far less daunting.

  3. Step 3

Have something fun to do in the morning. Writing in a journal at the start of every day about the dreams you had is a possible motivator. Another is making sure you have a special brew of coffee you look forward to, or another favorite part of breakfast.

  4. Step 4

Do not eat too soon before bed. Plan meals so that you have a couple hours to digest before attempting to sleep, and try to eat easily digestible foods such as vegetables and fruits. Digesting takes more energy than you think and if your stomach works while you sleep, you won’t feel rested.

  5. Step 5

Know how much sleep you need to get, and be sure to go to bed so you get enough before you wake up. Some people can operate on five hours of sleep. Some on nine. The time actually fluctuates; some nights you need more than others. If you get up consistently at a set time every day, you will be able to go to bed when you are tired and get exactly the sleep you need. must-get-up-early

  6. Step 6

Get an alarm clock that does not make you hate yourself in the morning. There are natural alarm clocks that wake by slowing increasing the light or using soothing sounds. The reason these clocks can help is because it eases our bodies into the right stage of sleep before waking to allow us to feel our most rested. If you’re afraid these clocks won’t wake you, make a fail-safe alarm to stir you from sleep five to ten minutes after.

  7. Step 7

As soon as the alarm goes off, get up. The snooze button is evil and wants you to never get up early. You must not appease him. Haul yourself out of bed and get moving– some stretching may help.
