Relaxing on an airplane can be a very difficult task at time. Noisy engines, crying babies, and turbulance are just some of the many common distractions. Here are a few simple steps to fall asleep on your next flight.

Instructions

Clothing – Wear comfortable, loose-fitting, layered clothing. Bring a sweater and a pair of socks. The cabin temperature is not consistent throughout the flight.

Food - Bring a lite snack in your carry-on luggage and avoid the in flight meal. The time you spend waiting for the meal will hurt your sleeping efforts.

Drinks – Bring a bottle of water and drink small amounts. Avoid coffee and alcohol. Alcohol can help you fall asleep initially, but will cause you to use the bathroom frequently.

Shades - Bring a pair of sunglasses or shades. This can help block out distractions. If you do not wish to be disturbed by the flight attendants write “Do not Disturb” on a piece of tape and put it on your shades.

Try to fall asleep early in the flight. The G forces cause drowsiness and the oxygen levels are lower than normal during takeoff.

Overseas travel is a highly enjoyable experience, but that doesn’t mean it is without its risks. Tourists are prime targets of petty crime in many large cities, and women traveling alone can face unwanted attention and harassment. On the other hand, you shouldn’t allow unwarranted fear to put a damper on your overseas vacation. By following a few simple steps, you can ensure that your travels abroad will be both rewarding and safe.

Instructions

Make copies of important documents like itineraries, passports and plane tickets before your departure. Leave one copy with a trusted friend or family member and keep a second copy with you. In the event that an important document is lost, it will be far easier to replace if you can provide a copy. Research your destination and consult friends who have traveled there previously, often other travelers can provide helpful first-hand overseas safety tips.

Shortly before departing the states or soon after arriving overseas, make sure to register with the US State Department. Travel registration allows you to record information about your trip abroad that the State Department can use to assist you in case of an emergency. You can register on the State Department’s website. US Embassies and Consulates can assist Americans who encounter serious legal, health or financial difficulties while traveling abroad.

After checking into your hotel, stash anything of value, including travel documents, into the safe in your room. Unless you must attend a formal function, it is better avoid wearing expensive jewelry while traveling abroad. Be especially cautious at and around popular tourist sites—pickpockets often lurk around tourist attractions and strike when a traveler is distracted. Men should never keep wallets in back pockets and women should keep purses closed and zipped. Avoid carrying large amounts of cash—it is safer to travel with credit cards, which can be replaced and will often reimburse you if unauthorized charges are made.

Dress to blend in with the locals. Avoid wearing shorts and sneakers, which are dead tourist giveaways and can compromise your safety overseas. Dress fashionably, but modestly, particularly if you are female. Ultra short shorts and micro minis may look sexy at home, but can also result in unwanted harassment by overzealous local men abroad. While most of these overtures are harmless, they are best avoided to begin with. If you are bothered despite your efforts to blend in, usually ignoring these lusty lotharios will do the trick. Otherwise, a firm “no” in the local language will usually put them in their place.

Stick to well-lit, heavily trafficked areas when out at night. Avoid late-night subway rides, particularly in empty subway cars. Convey confidence and look as though you know where you are going, even if you don’t. If you get lost after dark in a foreign city, often it is a lot safer to grab a taxi back to your hotel room, rather than wandering around back alleys trying to find your way. When it comes to staying safe overseas, common sense is your best bet.

Tips & Warnings

Carry a local cell phone with you and program the country’s emergency numbers into it, so that help overseas will be just a speed dial away.

If you feel you are in a genuinely threatening situation, do not hesitate to walk into a store or hotel and request help.

Consider purchasing travel insurance before you depart abroad. There are a variety of plans to meet your needs that will give you an added sense of security.

How to Take Better Photos

With advances in technology, it is easier to take better photos. Yet, we need the right equipment and a little know-how to make the most of our digital memories. Read on to learn more.

Step 1

Kodak Z612 – An affordable SLR-like camera.

Buy a camera that is both adequate for the job and one that has a learning curve that meets your interest. If your digital camera learning curve is limited many bells and whistles will simply get in the way. Look for essential features like auto focus. Read independent reviews for name brand cameras in your price range.

Step 2

Learn your camera by reading the manual and exploring the manufacturer website. An often overlooked way to take better photos is to understand the full potential of your camera. If your digital camera has modes for certain photo conditions (such as low light or action shots), pay particular attention to these settings.

Step 3

Lightweight Tripod – Approximately $20 (Photo by bizewriter)

Steady your shots. The value of a tripod can not be over-emphasized, and inexpensive, light-weight tripods are widely available. Other ways to take better photos, without blur, is to steady against a wall, hold your elbow with the opposite hand, and to breath in, hold your breath, then shoot.

Step 4

Focus on good lighting to take better photos. Lighting is one area worth investigating. Some basics include lighting the subject from behind the camera when possible and avoid using a flash when conditions warrant. For smaller objects, purchase or learn how to make a do-it-yourself (DIY) portable lighting studio for professional looking results.

Step 5

Avoid digital zoom as this will degrade photo quality. When purchasing a camera aim for the best optical zoom level you can afford.

Step 6

Practice taking photos under various conditions. It doesn’t matter what the subject matter is but try various lighting conditions, indoor and outdoor photography, stationary and moving objects. This allows you to see what corrections you need help with before an important photo opportunity comes up.

Step 7

Use photo enhancing software to improve your photos drastically. Some of the easier applications include those packaged with the camera (e.g. Kodak EasyShare) as well as Photoshop Elements and the less expensive Photobot.

Step 8

Visit photography help websites for information on ISO speed, aperture, exposure and manual focus to increase your chances for producing a winning photograph.

When you want to take a picture but your composition is too close to the sun or your camera is aiming toward the sun. Simple hold the camera with one hand that will allow you to snap the picture. Carefully bring your other hand between the sun and your camera. You want to create a shadow over your camera.

Step 3

Now this last step is a little tricky, but with practice you will master it quickly. You need to move your hand that is creating the shadow on the camera so that it is not in your view finder (or in the picture you want to take) But you still want to create the shadow over the camera. When you have everything positioned correctly, steady the hand that is holding the camera and carefully take the shot.

Anne Geddes has a knack for taking amazing pictures with young subjects.

While you may not have all the cutecostumes, there are a few things you can do to take a few amazing photographs of your own.

Step 1

Buy a digital camera such as a Nikon 500, that will take photographs in quick succession. Children do the cutest things but it happens so fast that you do not have time for lag time between clicking and shooting or between shots.

Step 2

Get down on the same level as the child. We’ve all seen pictures of children staring up at the camera. Kneel down and shoot them in at a natural angle. The children will feel more at ease when the camera is not towering over them. The results are worth the painful position.

Step 3

Use natural lighting whenever you can. When you can avoid flash, the little ones will not have a red light in their eyes or show just the whites of their eyes. They are also less likely to looked “washed out.”

Step 4

Catch them being children. Posing often looks contrite but in a normal situation, many amazing photographs present themselves.

Step 5

Have a positive attitude. When the photographer is stressed, demanding or unhappy, the children will sense that and may end up in tears. Don’t be overly aggressive with a child you do not know as they will recoil and you may never get the picture you want.

Step 6

Use Halloween costumes to dress up your child and try to take a few Anne Geddes shots of your own. They can be purchased at a reduced price after the holiday and can be used to make adorable pictures for gifts for Christmas gifts.

How to Become a Travel Photographer

Most travel photographers are freelancers with a good eye, able to capture the beauty of every place they visit, not matter if it’s Egypt or the corner shop. When it comes to being a travel photographer, it’s essential not only to be open to unexpected trips and requests, but also to understand well what the market needs and being able to provide that at all times.

Step 1

Learn the craft. Travel photographers may specialize in one type of photography, but they still need to learn how to handle a camera, how to shoot properly and how to identify good photo opportunities. Taking a class at a local college or continuing education center can help, or you can look for online workshops like the ones offered by the New York Institute of Photography (see Resources below).

Step 2

Buy a copy of Photographer’s Market or similar guidebook. These guides include detailed listings of magazines and databases open to submissions from freelance photographers, including travel photographers. The book will help you understand the format required for submissions, the quality and sizes expected and what a market pays.

Step 3

Study the market. Because travel photography is often used to accompany articles written by others

, it’s important that you take your time to research the type of work featured in magazines and databases. Go through the pages and look at the photos with a critical eye, rather than as an observer. Try to understand the angles, lights and effects used to create the final composition.

Step 4

Network. Especially at the beginning of your career, it’s important to connect with the right people in order to land assignments or tag along tours and travels. This could mean doing some work for hotels and travelcompanies, selling your work to stock photo databases or taking some short trips in your own state (see Resources below).

Step 5

Create a portfolio. Since you will be dealing with people all over the world, having a website is essential. You can create an online portfolio divided by topic or type of photography, as well as having a physical, print portfolio in case local clients want to see how the final product turns out.

Shooting photos at night can be tricky, especially in remote places outdoors. Night Photography is difficult work, requiring patience, planning, and caffeine. The reward is that you get to see the world as few ever do.

Step 1

Shoot at twilight for natural color. Just after sunset or just before sunrise are great times. Exposures can range from several seconds to several minutes, blurring any moving objects, which can be a great effect. High clouds still glowing from sunset will cast a warm radiance on the scene, and clear skies creates a cooler tone.

Step 2

Use the moonlight for softer shadows. Moonlit scenes can look a lot like daytime scenes, except the shadows will be softer. Exposure times can vary greatly depending on the phase of the moon: A few minutes may be enough to expose a scene lit by a full moon, but you’ll probably need an hour or more for a

crescent moon.

Step 3

Create your own scene by painting with light. Use flash or other artificial light such as headlights to illuminate parts of the landscape selectively. Make sure not to make the artificial light too harsh. Keep the artificial light source as far away from the subject as possible or have the light bounce off a natural object. For a more surreal setting, cover your light source with a colored filter.

Step 4

Experiment and be creative. Photographing in darkness is challenging-you won’t get perfect results the first time. Try to practice often to get the hang of it and take test shots.

Global forex trading is a huge and incredibly liquid market that unveils an opportunity for those individuals who are looking to exchange currencies around the world. There is considerably less heard about the forex market compared to the commodities and stock market. Global forex trading may not be as well known as stock trading in fact it is actually far smaller than the stocks and even the commodities markets. But being that as it may there is more than $2 trillion closer to $3 trillion in currencies being traded every day on the global forex market. The nice thing about it is seeing that the market is global in can be traded pretty much 24/7.

The fact of the matter is that Global Forex Trading can be an easy way for both beginners and professional forex traders to make money online. The most appealing thing about this forex opportunity and trading in the forex market is the leverage. In the forex market one can control 20, 50 or even 100 times more than their initial investment. This can give you the opportunity to make a ton of money from a very small investment. The reason the Global forex market even exists is to promote investment in international commerce.
